Practical and effective parking solution

Here in our hometown we often discuss the growing parking problems.  The fantastic success of our downtown growth has brought urban style issues to the forefront.    At Off the Wagon we are very involved in our community.  We are excited to offer this inexpensive and effective solution to all your parking woes.  This is our Wind up Parking Goddess.  You can put her on your dash and expect miraculous results.  Simply wind her up, set her on your dash and drive by the closest most convenient spots at your destination and the results will astound you.

In an independent study by the bureau of motor inconvenience it was found that the Parking Space Goddess increased chances of finding an excellent spot by 63.4% and finding a good spot by 71.87%.  (Excellent = within 100 feet and Good= within 250 feet of the destination).

Clearly this little $4.99 tool is one that every household is in need of.
(Disclaimer:  You must be in heaven's favor in order to effectively use the parking space goddess.  Independent studies may not be statistically significant as the test population falls below (far) the significant threshold.  Do not wind Parking Goddess while driving.)

5 Great games for the 2014 holidays

As the holidays approach, we want to give you some suggestions on great board games for gifts and family gatherings.  These are Michelle's favorites.

1.  Telestrations  and Telestrations Party Game
This is a new game we are carrying this year.  It is a fun with a group of 4-8 players, or 8-12 players (the larger Party pack game).  Players pick a word, try to draw the word then pass their books to their neighbors who try to guess the word from their drawing.  Once they guess, they try and draw it and then pass the books to their neighbors.  It is basically like the old telephone game but with drawing involved.  It is fun to see what the outcome is!  This is more of a non-competitive, casual play game that is great for lots of laughs in a group setting.

2.  Last Letter Game
Super quick to learn.  Play moves fast as you turn over a beautifully illustrated card.  One player calls out a word associated with the card then flips the next card.  Starting with the last letter of the word from the last card, call out a new word associated with the new card... simple, fun and fast.  Players gather points (cards) by calling out the most words.
Ages:
 8 to adult
Players:
 2 or more

This is a great game for small groups or large groups.  Pick a subject card, start the built in timer, tap a letter and that letter is the first letter of the word you use that matches the subject.  Once you say the word you tap the red button and move the tapple game to the next person.  It gets much harder as the letters are used up.   Don't take too long or you are out.
AGES 8+
2-8 players
10-20 minutes play time

I love this game.  There are endless set ups on this game.  Every time you play is different and your strategy will need to adjust.  If you like a fast, easy to learn game this is NOT the game for you.  But if you like a game rich in content and strategy, you'll love this and play it over and over.
Here is how it goes:  You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams! You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion!  In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner.

But wait! It must be something in the air; several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn’t be proud, but your grandparents, would be delighted.
 Players: 2 - 4   Age: 13 +

This one is my favorite.  Another game rich in strategy.  Because board can be set up differently every time and there are multiple avenues to win the game, strategy will have to change with each game.   There is a little learning curve to this, so the first time you play it will take a bit of time reading the directions, but it is a game you will come back to over and over.  This is actually our best selling board game!

Your goal is to get the most victory points.  The first person with 10 victory points wins the game.  Gain points by building your settlements, or building the longest railroad or army.  Strategically plan to get the most resources in order buy the things you need to build your houses, roads and hotels.
For 3 to 4 players.   Ages 10 and up.
Expansions:  We have a number of expansions in the store!

Besides who isn't a big fan of Kevin Bacon?  The Following?  Awesome!  Foot Loose?  Oh yeah.

I had my daughter write up a review of this (well she did this 4 years ago and I am just getting around to sharing it!  Our information is good, just not timely).

Fluxx is a relay funny, exhilarating, and rule changing game. In it you play different cards trying to get the goal. There are also different kinds of Fluxx like, Monty python Fluxx and zombi Fluxx. The first time I played I made my brother win, my parents where shocked!!

Weird Things Gift List!

I asked a couple staff members to come up with our top weird things for gifts.  Jenna and Steve's list:

1) Instant Underpants: These underpants come condensed in a small tin...to expand them, just add water! Stick them in your purse or your pocket and you'll always be prepared for any unexpected accidents.
2) Mustache Comb: Tired of staring at your husband/dad/grandpa/cousin/aunt's unruly mustache? Then give them the gift of grooming made easy with the mustache-sized switchblade comb! You'll have them looking dapper in no time.

3) Fart Bombs: Researchers have spent hundreds of years trying to come up with a way to create the scent of flatulence without having to exert all that effort.  The end result? These XL Fart Bombs! Just break the inner bag and watch the fart bomb inflate and burst with that unmistakable smell as your friends and family react with pure horror/admiration.

4) Chicken Mask: We know. Horse masks are all the rage right now.  Whatever happened to individuality? To independence? To poultry? This chicken mask lets everybody know that you aren't afraid to take a two-legged stand against a four-legged world.  Just don't forget to shake ya tail feather while you're at it.

5) Crazy Cat Lady Board Game: Becoming a true cat lady can be expensive. Between the costs of litter, cat food and vet bills, owning between 3 and 9,000 cats can be a real money-sucker.  That's why we offer the Crazy Cat Lady Board Game! Move across the board while trying to collect more cats than your opponents and live out your cat lady fantasies for a fraction of the cost.

6) Duff Beer Energy Drink: Is it beer? Is it an energy drink? Nobody knows! Just kidding, we know. And it's an orange energy drink that looks exactly like the famous Duff beer from the Simpsons.  Fool your friends into thinking you've just stepped out of Springfield, and fool your parents into thinking you've taken up underage drinking! (And then reassure them immediately thereafter that you are actually not drinking beer and then go clean your room or something)
7) Waitress Action Figure: What's more exciting than taking orders and bringing food to restaurant patrons? Capture all of the adventure of food service with the waitress action figure!  With her magnetic trays and removable apron, you're guaranteed to have hours of fun serving food while complaining about rude customers and less-than-minimum wage!

8) Creepy Doll Head Salt and Pepper Shakers: If you're anything like me, you hate to share your spices The solution to your problem? The Creepy Doll Head Salt and Pepper Shakers! Your dinner guests will think twice before reaching for the salt or pepper as these creepy doll heads stare back at them silently saying "I dare you."

9) Plush Uterus: Stuffed animals are a thing of the past! Instead, we've got plush guts! What's more cuddly than a uterus or more adorable than an appendix? We sure don't know.

10) Squirrel Coffee Cup: As the stress of the holidays starts to wear down our little furry squirrel friends, they've grown tired and slow on their journeys to climb trees and gather nuts.  Our solution? The Squirrel Coffee Cup! Just fill this tiny mug up with your favorite coffee blends, add espresso and hand it off to your squirrel friend!  It'll be just the pick-up they need after late nights of online shopping.

3) Head massagers...if you have to ask, you've never used one before

4) WordARound (it's a fast-paced word game and who doesn't like words!?)

5) Cubebots (they are great fidget toys and can be posed in approximately eight zillion different ways)

Dear Off the Wagon: Too much facial hair

Dear Off the Wagon,

I am having trouble with facial hair.  As a woman, this is not good.  Ever since I turned 35 I have these dark black hairs that keep popping up.  I hate plucking them (hurts!), and I refuse to shave.

Help!
Too much facial hair

Dear Too much facial hair!

We often get this question.  What you (and others like you) fail to realize is just how much facial hair has come to be embraced these days.  The sheer amount of fun mustache gifts that we sell is a testament to this fact.  So we say, why fight it?  Why not let it grow?

Because the in between times are tough, we have an excellent temporary solutions.  Just use our stick on mustaches while you cultivate your mustache.  These come in a variety of colors and shapes.  You can use a different color each day.  Lots of fun and you will be making the fashion statement of the year!

Sincerely,  Off the Wagon

Dear Off the Wagon... Too Sleepy

Dear Off the Wagon,

I'm worried I may be fired soon. I am falling asleep at every meeting we have at work. The problem is that our meetings are far far to mundane. I don't need to hear the information to effectively get my work done, yet my boss requires me to be there. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Sleepyhead
-----------------------------------
Dear Sleepyhead,

Fortunately, due to a recent addition in our shop, we have the perfect solution for you. Our Anime Eyes glasses have a wide open eye printed on the front. Your boss will believe you are the most attentive listener whenever you have these on. And, on the rare occasion when you do wake up, you can still see perfectly fine through them. (We don't recommend the blue hair pictured here.)

Sincerely,

Off the Wagon

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Dear Off the Wagon,

I have been smoking since I was 13. A friend of mine's father died recently of lung cancer and I am feeling convicted to quit. I have tried and tried to stop lighting up, but it just isn't working. The cravings are too strong. I need some help but I can't afford those expensive treatments. What should I do?

Help!
Addicted

Dear Addicted,
You have made some great first steps in deciding to quit and reaching out for help. Years and years of habit are difficult to break without some assistance. Sadly, most of the assistance out there comes in the form of costly treatments. I am thrilled to offer you an amazing and low cost solution. Our new "Doctor's Choice" cigarettes are sweet and mild and completely nicotine free. You can enjoy the taste and feel of a cigarette without all the nasty cancer causing additives and tobacco. These cigarettes are actually recommended by nine out of ten doctors. At $2.49 a pack, these are well within any budget.

Wishing you a long healthy life,

Off the Wagon

Neighborhood Toy Store Day: Nov. 12th

As a child, nothing compared to the enchanted feeling of shopping for toys at your local toy store. Gazing with wonder at the aisles of exciting choices…holding your new toy for the very first time…anticipation building inside you as you finally took your new gifts home.

In a world where new gadgets pop up every day, it is heartening to know that some good things never change.

On November 12, Off the Wagon Shop will join hundreds of locally owned stores across the country to celebrate the second annual national Neighborhood Toy Store Day.

"When you shop at an independent toy store, you are entering a universe of play possibilities," explains Kathleen McHugh, President of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA). "Neighborhood Toy Store Day is about celebrating the role the local store plays in the community. We are highlighting the expertise your local store has in selecting just the right
innovative, exclusive and engaging toy to help your child grow and learn through play."

As part of the festivities, Off the Wagon will be celebrating with a visit from Santa's elves and some fun activities and treats for the kids. There will be a drawing for prizes including a $50 gift card. The event will take place form 4pm to 6pm in their Kent store.

Consumers can be confident that more of the dollars spent in local, independently-owned stores, stay in the community—25% percent more in contrast with national chains, according to the 3/50 Project. Resident business owners pour more money and energy back into the community in the form of everything from tax dollars to charity donations to participating in local initiatives through civic associations and area chambers of commerce.

McHugh urged shoppers to take this opportunity to be part of a celebration of community and to get to know their neighborhood toy store on Neighborhood Toy Store Day.

“By shopping locally, consumers will find great toys while supporting vibrant communities and
sustainable economic development. Visit your neighborhood toy store and you may bring home
more than just the perfect gift, you'll share the spirit of the season.”
